Quite simply that at its very best cooking is a silent art. I'm not saying that there is no clatter of pots and pans, or the sizzle of butter cooking in olive oil prior to adding thinly sliced vegetables. Not at all. These sounds are rich and part of the cooking experience. What I'm referring to is the inner silence, and the silence between two cooks sharing a cooking space. They move around each other like dancers. They jam like to violin virtuosos.
